On Saturday, we had the chance to hang out at RallyFest, a small festival that was held at Brighton Bar in Long Branch, NJ. Although this was their first full festival, RallyFest’s creators have been holding shows with local New Jersey bands for the past year or so.
Diner Food, who are based out of Central New Jersey, was the third band to perform at RallyFest. Like their name suggests, Diner Food set us up with some tasty jams, namely from their self-titled album, which was released in April.
During their set, the band performed singles like ‘Fill Kollinz,’ and ‘Sugar.’ Diner Food’s sound is rough and gritty hometown rock and roll at its best. Their live show definitely energized the crowd, who was drawn in by their catchy guitar licks and relatable lyrics about love, stress, and being young in a small town. Although they’re relatively new to their local scene, Diner Food has a musical chemistry that makes them one of my favorite local bands of the moment.
You can catch Diner Food at their next show, the 3rd annual Spooky Halloween Backyard Jam, on October 28th. The free show is hosted by Bad Cat Records. You can find more information here.
