Amanda Duncan interview via email

1.) Introduce yourself to your fans!
Hello! My name is Amanda Duncan...and I'm pretty cool...or at least my mom tells me so. Haha! I write songs, I sing those songs, and play guitar/mandolin/banjo. My music is basically acoustic pop and most likely to put a smile on your face.
2.) What made you want to pursue a career in the music industry?
Well, I think I kind of fell into this by accident. I started playing guitar when I was in high school because I didn't want to sing along with the radio anymore. I wrote some songs (they were really bad back then...haha!) and kept playing out. I think I realized I wanted to pursue music as a career after seeing the reaction that audiences had while I was playing. People were bopping their heads and singing along and I thought "Hey...this could really be something special."
3.) Who are your major influences?
This sounds cliche but pretty much everything influences my music...mostly experiences of everyday life. As far as how my music sounds...I'll give you some names: The Dixie Chicks, Stevie Wonder, Dar Williams, Marc Broussard, Rascal Flatts, too many to mention!
4.) What instruments do you play and which one is your favorite?
Well, guitar is my main instrument. It's what I'm most familiar with. Mandolin comes in second and banjo is in third. I think mandolin is my fav...simply because it's just my size. I can jump around and groove (to my own music...haha) without the bulkiness of my guitar.
5.) What are your plans for the future?
This is always such a loaded question! Well, I plan on recording another EP...probably just 3 acoustic-like songs. And then I'm going to record a 3 song holiday EP. Which I can't wait for because I have a Hannukah song that is going to amazing...and my claim to fame "The Cookie Song". I am hoping to have a full album by next summer and with that I would like to start getting on some tours with some decent artists. A majority of this year I'm going to be traveling throughout the country touring colleges. If anyone is interested in me playing their college feel free to contact me!
6.) What has been your favorite venue to play at?
This may sound funny, but my favorite place to play is people's living rooms or backyards. I love how I don't have to deal with a sound system and I love the intimate audience. I think it's where I strive the most in my performances.
7.) What's something that most people don't know about you?
I am a total computer geek. I love anything techie. I also took clowning workshops for a while...don't judge! Haha!
8.) What inspires you when you're writing your music?
A lot of times I come up with concepts for songs. For instance, right now I have an idea for a song about moving away and living the simple life and drinking lemonade on my front porch. I have some of it written...hopefully it comes out the way I want it do. My song "Fall into You" is about true blue love. I wanted to write about how I could own everything in the world and I can travel anywhere I want, but not matter what I'm still going to love the person I'm with more than any of those things. So, in the end, it's all about the concepts I want to share with my listeners.
9.) Do you have any upcoming shows?
Most of my upcoming shows are in the mid-west. I do have a few in NJ and PA. You can check my schedule for the most up to date info:http://www.amandaduncan.com/shows.html
10.) If you could go to dinner with anyone (alive or dead) who would it be and why?
Paula Deen...for real y'all! I'm not big into meeting celebrities....but I just love her! Anyone who cooks everything in butter needs to be my friend. Gaahaha! I've been to a few of her book signings and it was such a blast. I think I might do a campaign this year to "Help Amanda have lunch with Paula Deen". I am hoping that if I can get the campaign enough buzz...it might happen. Haha!Thank you so much for the interview. I'm flattered you wanted to take them time to help spread the word about me. You rule so much! And if anyone wants to they can follow me on Twitter:http://www.twitter.com/amandaduncan I usually respond to all my tweets. Ok, enough out of me. Later!Amanda
